  18. ** XM.Laruox: Detection & Repair for the first Excel Macro Virus    **

  20. This special definition update release adds the capability to detect
  21. and repair the first Excel Macro virus, XM.Laroux.  This virus is not
  22. considered widespread, and does not pose a significant public threat.

  29. ** Intelligent Updater                                              **

  31. As part of its continuing commitment to fight the spread of computer
  32. viruses, Symantec has developed a new program called "Intelligent
  33. Updater" to simplify virus definitions files updates. 
  34.  
  35. Intelligent Updater locates Norton AntiVirus on your computer and
  36. installs new virus definitions files automatically. All you have
  37. to do is run the program. 
  38.  
  39. The actual program name for Intelligent Updater, which changes from
  40. month to month, uses the following form: 
  41.  
  42.    mmNAVyy.EXE, where mm is the month and yy is the year.
  43.  
  44. For example, 08NAV96B.EXE is the virus definitions files update for
  45. August, 1996. See the accompanying file, "UPDATE.TXT," for step-by-step
  46. instructions to run the program for each Norton AntiVirus version.

  50. ** Norton AntiVirus Program Upgrade for Macro Viruses               **
  51. **********************************************************************
  52. Norton AntiVirus detects and eliminates a new class of viruses called
  53. "macro viruses" that infect Microsoft Word document and template
  54. files. All current versions of Norton AntiVirus have this capability.
  55.  
  56. If your installed version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0 (NAV.EXE or
  57. NAVW.EXE) is dated earlier than February 23, 1996, or your installed
  58. version of Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 (NAVW32.EXE) is dated
  59. earlier than December 1, 1995, you need to upgrade. The Norton
  60. AntiVirus upgrade installs the NAV Macro Engine automatically, which
  61. detects and eliminates macro viruses.

  63. To upgrade your Norton AntiVirus 3.0 program:
  64.  
  65.   * Download the file called UPDATEME.EXE
  66.   * Place the file in an empty directory and execute the file
  67.     to extract.

  69. To upgrade your Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 program:
  70.  
  71.   * Download the file called NAV95PCH.EXE
  72.   * Place the file in an empty folder and execute the file
  73.     to extract.

  75. Step-by-step instructions are included with each file.  If you
  76. need additional instructions, a FaxBack service is available

  79. UPDATEME.EXE and NAV95PCH.EXE are located where the monthly virus
  80. definitions files update are normally found. It is available for
  81. download from the Symantec BBS, the Symantec FTP or Web site,
  82. CompuServe, America Online, or Microsoft Network. You can also call
  83. Customer Service at (800) 441-7234 to order a disk set.
